DoWeKnow Studies the Book of Revelation CHAPTER 8:2-7 (24754 bytes)

-CHAPTERS 16:2-3-

Introduction to the Fifteenth Rendering of Daniel's Seventieth Week

(The authors' on-line book the Clock of the Ages is a study of Matthew 24 & 25, a lengthy passage which contains the most thorough prophetic teaching given by our Lord Jesus. Because those prophecies will affect the Church and because those prophecies are essential to our understanding of the Book of Revelation, it is recommended that Clock of the Ages be read before entering this study.)

Jesus gave us the key to understanding the prophecies of the Book of Revelation in His discourse to the disciples in Matthew 24 and 25. (This key applies to other major prophetic portions of the Bible as well.) We discussed the key in some detail in chapter twenty-nine of our book The Clock of the Ages, where we referred to His prophecies as "Spiritual Replays." (Click here to go to Clock of the Ages, booklet eight, chapter 29--use the "back" button on your browser to return to this page.) In that discourse Jesus gave us ten important end-time prophecies, each prophecy to take place at the end of our age, and each prophecy ending with the same event; i.e., the Rapture of the Church. Because the prophetic portion of Revelation covers the time period from the Rapture of the Church to the end of the world at the end of the Kingdom Age, the period for each replay includes the two remaining "night watches" assigned to Israel: i.e., "the cockcrowing"--the first 3 1/2 years of Daniel's 70th Week just prior to the installation of the Kingdom Age, and "the morning watch"--the second 3 1/2 period of Daniel's 70th week at the end of the Kingdom Age. (For a study of the prophetic watches of Israel's night, click here to go to Clock of the Ages, booklet seven, then scroll to chapter 28--use the "back" button on your browser to return to this page.)

FIFTEENTH SET

-The 1st 1/2 of Daniel's 70th Week-
Rev. 16:2 The first vial is poured on those who worshipped the "beast"--sealing their doom.
-The 2nd 1/2 of Daniel's 70th Week-
Rev. 16:3 The second vial is poured on the "sea" (those without a covenant with God)--sealing their doom.
Rev. 16:2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.

And the first went... The scene has changed now from heaven back to the earth. Remember, the Holy Spirit was taken up with the Church in the Rapture, so it will now be the job of the angels to restrain Satan and evil men lest they destroy the earth. It would seem that this angel has a two-fold job to do: he is to see that those with the mark of the beast / who worship the beast, receive a "noisome" sore; while at the same time, he is to protect the "seed" that Jesus will choose to repopulate the earth during the Kingdom Age.

...and poured out his vial upon the earth... With his vial this angel is "putting his mark" on those who are to be destroyed. In the sets to follow, we will see how this will come to pass.

...and there fell a noisome and grievous sore... The on-line Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary defines noisome as:
1 : NOXIOUS, HARMFUL
2 a: offensive to the senses and especially to the sense of smell b: highly obnoxious or objectionable

...upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image. Again, this will be a "selective" curse — effecting only those with the mark of the beast/who worship the beast.

Rev. 16:3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.

And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea... As we've pointed out repeatedly, in prophecy, the "sea" is the mass of humanity without a covenant with God.

...and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea. As we will see in the following sets, the destruction of these people will not be in the twinkling of an eye, as was the Rapture of the Church. However, when this angel pours out his vial, the destruction of those who have steadfastly refused the grace of God and stubbornly hung on to their evil ways will be sealed without any chance of reprieve. (This, in turn, will set the stage for the destruction of the heavens and the earth — which will be by fire — and the subsequent creation of a new heaven and a new earth.) In the sets to follow, we will see how this will be brought to pass.
