Introduction to the Twenty-second Rendering of Daniel's Seventieth Week

(The authors' on-line book the Clock of the Ages is a study of Matthew 24 & 25, a lengthy passage which contains the most thorough prophetic teaching given by our Lord Jesus.  Because those prophecies will affect the Church and because those prophecies are essential to our understanding of the Book of Revelation, it is recommended that Clock of the Ages be read before entering this study.)

Jesus gave us the key to understanding the prophecies of the Book of Revelation in His discourse to the disciples in Matthew 24 and 25.  (This key applies to other major prophetic portions of the Bible as well.)  We discussed the key in some detail in chapter twenty-nine of our book The Clock of the Ages, where we referred to His prophecies as "Spiritual Replays." (Click here to go to Clock of the Ages, booklet eight, chapter 29--use the "back" button on your browser to return to this page.)  In that discourse Jesus gave us ten important end-time prophecies, each prophecy to take place at the end of our age, and each prophecy ending with the same event; i.e., the Rapture of the Church.   Because the prophetic portion of Revelation covers the time period from the Rapture of the Church to the end of the world at the end of the Kingdom Age, the period for each replay includes the two remaining "night watches" assigned to Israel:  i.e., "the cockcrowing"--the first 3 1/2 years of Daniel's 70th Week just prior to the installation of the Kingdom Age, and "the morning watch"--the second 3 1/2 period of Daniel's 70th week at the end of the Kingdom Age.          -The 1st 1/2 of Daniel's 70th Week-
Rev. 20:1-3a Although we have mentioned it often in our study, it is in this segment of this set that we learn about Satan's being bound and cast into hell for the duration of the Kingdom Age.		           -The 2nd 1/2 of Daniel's 70th Week-
Rev. 20:3b In this segment, we learn that at the end of the Kingdom Age, Satan will be released from his 1,000 confinement in hell and put back on the face of the earth to once again deceive the nations.
Revelation 20:1-3a

1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit... A key represents authority, and as we will soon see, this angel has the authority and the power to do the job at hand.

2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

For those who are overly impressed with Satan's limited, alloted powers, this should be a comfort; for it will take only one angel to bind him and to cast him into the bottomless pit.

3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled...

And cast him into the bottomless pit... This bottomless pit should not be envisioned as something like an elevator shaft with no bottom.  Rather, it speaks of hell which is in the center of the earth. Because it is in the center of the earth, it has no gravity; and its inhabitants will float without ever being able to feel moored and secure.

...and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled... This is interesting.  There'll be no tempter for the whole of the Kingdom Age, yet men will rebel against their God in their thoughts/minds! 

Revelation 20:3b

...and after that he must be loosed a little season.

This is where we learn that at the end of the Kingdom Age, Satan will be released from his 1,000 year confinement and put back on the face of the earth to once again work on the fallen flesh in man and lie to the liars and deceive the deceivers.
