-THE SECOND PARENTHESIS-
-REV. 14:1-13-
--THIS INTERLUDE LETS US KNOW WHAT'S IN STORE FOR THOSE THAT WILL GO THROUGH DANIEL'S 70th WEEK--

VERSES 1-5 give us the blessed outcome of the faithful among the Hebrews--of those "without guile."

-The Scriptures-

Revelation 14:1-5

1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.
2 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:
3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

-The Scriptures with comments-
(As we will see in this passage, the Jews that put their trust in Christ Jesus during Daniel's 70th Week will not only be watched over carefully by Christ Himself during the day of God's Wrath, but they will have a special place with Him in heaven.)

Revelation 14:
1  And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.

And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion...Sion is Greek for Zion, and its name is almost synonymous with Israel.

                    Easton's Bible Dictionary
Zion: sunny; height, one of the eminences on which Jerusalem was built. It was surrounded on all sides, except the north, by deep valleys, that of the Tyropoeon (q.v.) separating it from Moriah (q.v.), which it surpasses in height by 105 feet. It was the south-eastern hill of
Jerusalem.

When David took it from the Jebusites (Josh. 15:63; 2 Sam. 5:7) he built on it a citadel and a palace, and it became "the city of David" (1 Kings 8:1; 2 Kings 19:21, 31; 1 Chr. 11:5). In the later books of the Old Testament this name was sometimes used (Ps. 87:2; 149:2; Isa. 33:14; Joel 2:1) to denote Jerusalem in general, and sometimes God's chosen Israel (Ps. 51:18; 87:5)...

The Lamb mentioned here is Christ Jesus, the Lamb of God-- Israel's Messiah.

...and with him an hundred forty and four thousand...
This expression designates end-time Israel. (See the last 1/2 of set four of our study for our comments on the 144,000 Jews that will be sealed during the last 1/2 of Daniel's 70th Week.)

...having his Father's name written in their foreheads.  There is a purpose for the choice of words that describe the Hebrews in this passage.  Only the Hebrews in the last 1/2 of Daniel's 70th Week will be "sealed in their foreheads," while the expression "having His Father's name written in their foreheads" will apply to both halves.

2  And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:

And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters...The prophetic term "waters" means the peoples of nations. CLICK HERE FOR A STUDY OF "WATER" IN PROPHECY.   The expression "as the voice of many waters" is expression is used here to described the last generation of Israel's dispersion who will have been regathered from the Gentile nations of the world (Isa 11:12 ).

...and as the voice of a great thunder... Thunder has to do with judgment.  The people living during Daniel's 70th Week will be judged by how they treat the Lord's brethren--the seed of His friend Abraham (Mat 25:40).

...and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: In the Bible, harps have to do with prophecy (I Sam. 10:5; I Chr. 25:3), with the pushing back of Satan (I Sam. 16:23), and with praise.

3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

This song should not be confused with the "song" of the four beasts and the four and twenty elders of Revelation 5:9.  This song can only be sung by the Jews that come through the awful time of Daniel's 70th Week.

4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins... These Jews will be spiritual virgins. They will not have been defiled with women as was Ahab with Jezebel, Samson with Delilah, Solomon with his strange wives, etc.  (For a study on spiritual virgins, CLICK HERE to go to booklet one of our on-line book MARK THEM, chapter 3. Click the "back" button on your browser to return to this page.

These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth...   Theirs will be a unique relationship with Christ because of His promise to Abraham and because of their faithfulness to Him through the horrific time of Daniel's 70th Week.

These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.  In the Old Testament times, Israel was to show its thankfulness and trust by giving God of the firstfruits of their increase.

Pro 3:9
Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

In return, God considered Israel to be His firstfuits.

Jer. 2:3 Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.

5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

The Hebrew Nathaniel was a type of these particular end-time Jews.

John 1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

VERSES 6-7 Although the Age of Grace will be over, for a time there will still be opportunity for the lost of Daniel's 70th Week to escape an eternity in the lake of fire.

-The Scriptures-

Revelation 14:6-7
6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

the Scriptures with comments-

6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,

And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel...  This will not be the Gospel of Christ (preached throughout the Grace Age) nor the Gospel of the Kingdom (to be preached in earnest at the end of our age to herald in the next age: i.e., the Kingdom Age).  However, it will still herald the good news that the blood of Christ will avail forever for those who put their trust in Him, as well as the dire warning of eternal damnation for all who ignore or reject the love that took Christ to the cross.  Apparently, God's offer of eternal life will still stand for those of Daniel's 70th Week, but not under the gracious auspices of our age; for it seems that those of this time must be willing to die for their faith.
...to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people...  This gospel will not be preached by man, but by an angel; and it will be preached to those who will be left in the turmoil and insanity of a world void of the Church (the salt of the earth) and the restraining force of the reign of the Holy Spirit of the Age of Grace. (See II Thes. 2:11.)  In the next verse we're given the nucleus of the message that will be preached by the angel.

7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

For the generation at the end of our age that will have been raised under the teaching of evolution — that will have been taught that there is no personal God of Creation with an interest in the life of each individual — this will be a "wake-up" call.  Only God knows what lies the devil will be teaching at the end of the Kingdom Age that will make the masses deny their God.  However, because this parenthesis has to do with the whole of Daniel's 70 Weeks, it appears that the "everlasting gospel" will be preached during both halves of Daniel's 70th Week.   Consequently, somewhere at the heart of this "everlasting gospel" will probably be the warning that to escape hell's fire, the hearer must not receive the mark of the beast.  (This is just speculation, but the people of the time will probably also be told that it will be pleasing to God to help out Abraham's seed in their hour of testing.)

VERSE 8 tells us of the future for "spiritual" Babylon.

-The Scriptures-

Revelation 14:8
And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

the Scriptures with comments-

Revelation 14:8
And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

The founder of Babylon was Nimrod, Noah's great grandson through Ham.   It was first called "Babel" (Gate to God), and in self-will, its citizens built a tall tower — thinking, perhaps, that God would descend to the earth and be with them as He had with Adam and Noah (...shades of the Pharisees and Saducees of Jesus' day who wanted Him to set up His kingdom on the spot so that they could rule with him in their fallen flesh).  But this was in disobedience to God's command to scatter and repopulate the earth.

In the days of its King Nebuchaddezar, Babylon was raised up of God to be a great power which was used to put a stop to Israel's corrupt ways.  The kings that followed Nebuchaddezar had no fear of God and under these kings the nation became very corrupt. Of this latter Babylon, Jeremiah wrote, "Babylon [hath been] a golden cup in the LORD'S hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad" (Jer. 51:7).

God eventually had to deal with the wickedness of Babylon.  Because the city of Babylon was destroyed and has never been rebuilt as per God's Word concerning it (See Isaiah chapter 13), for the 1st 1/2 of Daniel's 70th Week, this particular verse should at least be thought of as referring to "Spiritual Babylon" —  i.e., the world's political/ monetary/ religious system that will be controlled by the same spirit that prompted the ancient Babylonians to build their tower.  (However, as we've already speculated in our study,  it's just possible that during his rule at the end of the Kingdom Age, the beast might make of the world "one big city" ruled by the spirit of ancient Babylon.)
...saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen... This is not a typographical error or double talk.  The Babylon of prophecy will rise up and be brought down during both the 1st and the 2nd halves of Daniel's 70th Week.

VERSES 9-11 gives us the end of those who worship the beast and his image and receive his mark.

-The Scriptures-

Revelation 14:9-11
9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

the Scriptures with comments-

9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

Satan doesn't want to be outdone.  Christ will "seal" His 144,000 in their foreheads, so he's copycatting again-- forcing the inhabitants of the earth to receive his mark in their forehead or their hand to be able to buy or sell.  God will leave no room for misunderstanding.  Whether or not the first angel will warn about the beast and his mark, for sure, this angel will do so — and with a LOUD voice!

10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

You can't get any plainer than this.

11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

OUCH!

VERSES 12-13 gives us to understand that this "week" will be the ultimate time of spiritual testing for man.

-The Scriptures-

Revelation 14:12-13
12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.

the Scriptures with comments-

Revelation 14:12-13
12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

One of the reasons that the Jews of this period will have their own song and that the martyrs of this period will have special rewards is because Daniel's 70th Week will be the ultimate period of testing.  During this time those who put their faith in God and His Christ will have their faith tried to the utmost.

13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
