DEAR CO-WORKERS IN CHRIST,
Dear _____________ I can appreciate the need for large print Bibles and we could put your name and address up on the web so that our visitors would know of your need. However, I wonder at the wisdom of putting your address up on the web considering the violence and killings suffered by the Christians in your area. If would be very unfortunate if the Muslims there found you because of our attempts to help you. Let me suggest an alternative. If you will go to the Bible Gateway site (We have it linked to our pages.), you will find the Bible translated in several languages and in several translations. (We recommend the King James Version because of its accuracy in translation.) You will also find at the top of its home page the words "Large Print." If you click on these words, everything will come to you in large print. If the people in your care who have trouble with their eyes can get to a computer that's on line, they'll be able to enjoy the Bible. If that is a problem, you can print out the large print a few pages at a time and let them put them in a loose leaf notebook. I would suggest that you begin with the New Testament. Perhaps, the Gospel of John first, then Acts and Romans--then go back to Matthew and finish up the New Testament. Hopefully this will help you. Don TO OUR CYBER-VISITORS: About half the population where _______ lives is Muslim, about 40 percent Christian, and about 10 percent practices traditional indigenous religions or no religion. (Note. These numbers do not necessarily reflect the percentage of people who are practicing Christians, but those who lean more to Christian principles than they do Muslim principles. Only God knows the number who are actually born-again into the Kingdom of God. However, any distinctions are ignored by the Muslim assassins.) To read about the violence and deaths there, type "persecution of Christians in Nigeria" into a good search engine. Be forewarned that it will take you a while to read all that comes up. While we're talking about the persecution of Christians, let me share some observations. Because we needed a broadband, high speed connection to the internet to maintain our web site, we put in a cable connection; and with the connection we were given access to overseas newscasts. This was quiet an eye opener for us for when compared to the news we get in the US, it seemed that the news from overseas was from another planet. After viewing the overseas news, our news in the states takes on the characteristics of a supermarket tabloid and its "filtering" of events is troubling, if not alarming. This is especially so concerning the violence and carnage that Christians abroad have been subject to since the 1980s. (If you can't get overseas newscasts, you can still be alerted to this disturbing trend by typing "persecution of Christians" into a good internet search engine.) Last year alone, it was reported that over 150,000 Christians were slaughtered overseas--most of them by Muslims (those of the Islamic faith--the same ones who brought down the twin towers). Please understand that I am not writing this in a condescending tone, for as I've pointed out, I was not really aware of the enormity of the problem until just recently--but Christians of America, it is time for us to awaken from our slumber and pray for our brethren overseas--and to PRAY for God's protection lest this slaughter of Christians spills over onto our shores. Surely 9/11 has taught us that we are a target and that we are not invincible. Let me finish up by sharing some things that have been brought to my attention that are troubling to me; and I do so wondering if these things are unique to our area or if they are happening elsewhere in the US. First, in the 70s and the 80s we observed leaders of our great "one nation under God" welcoming in people of other religions and letting (if not suggesting) that they bring their gods with them. This was especially visible in the Muslim mosques that started springing up on our college campuses. This was done despite the fact that God says He is a jealous God and that we should have no other gods before Him. Second, we hear our leaders call Islam a "great religion of peace," when their Koran and their history teaches just the opposite. I don't know if these politicians are in ignorance or just don't want to upset the "politically correct" news media, but either way, I'm concerned. Their teachings are very militant. Third, it has been brought to my attention that in the last few years in the area where we live, people of the Muslim faith have been buying up our convenience stores to the point that it is hard to find one in the county where we live that they have not purchased. I don't know if these stores are front for "cells" as has been suggested; but it does seem that if it is just their family members that congregate at these stations, then they sure have large families. The bothersome thing to me about all of this is the fact that, for the most part, these stores are where we must purchase our gasoline. (I would especially be curious to know if this is happening elsewhere in the US or just in our area.) Fourth, I have discovered that at the top of our first responders (i.e., those who respond to 911 calls) are people of Arabic descent. This was brought to my attention when one day I looked out my front window to see a young Arabic looking man riding a bicycle that had a lap top computer attached to its handle bars. He would stop at the front of every house, study the house for a minute and then type something into his computer. My son flagged the man down and asked him what he was doing. He replied that he was gathering information so that 911 responders could have an up-dated map to work with. I called 911 and they confirmed that he was working for them. When talking to a friend who lives in a gated community, I related what I'd seen; and he said that something similar had happen in his community. Because it was gated, they called the sheriff who called 911. They told him the same as they had told me. Another friend responded to my story by saying: "Isn't that interesting? did you know that there is an Arabic man in a top position at 911?" In light of the fact that we "are at war" with this vague enemy, should I view all of this activity as just coincidence or the positioning of the enemy? Fifth, there is a FM radio station in our area that along with much tasteless music, also plays foreign music which to my untrained ear sounds Arabic. The particular disk jockey who played this music can hardly speak English. But what really bothers me is a speech my son and I heard on this same station when driving to the store. In the speech, which was actually more of a rally cry than a speech, a young lady was calling upon the youth of our land to use their liberty to overthrow Bush and his bullies. Since that time I have checked out this station and found it to be proud of its music and rhetoric of dissent. It calls itself a community station. I visited its web site and found that it considers itself to have a mission: i.e.,
I wonder if such rhetoric as I heard is what our founding fathers had in mind when they risked their fortunes and lives to establish freedom of speech for our nation? I say all of this not as a call to arms, but as a call to our knees. Church, it is time to awaken and to call upon the God who loves us so much that He sent His Only Begotten Son to die the dreadful death of the Cross in our stead. Church, now, when the soldiers of free nations are waging a physical war to keep us free, it is time for the Army of Christ to stand and be counted. If our nation and its allies are to win this war on terrorism, it must first be won in the spiritual realm! This is where you and I come in. It is time to do as it says in the song: i.e., "get down on your knees and STAND TALL!!!
